Special time with Mom

From Bruno:

Things have been hectic in my house. We have another dog staying with us. Mom and Dad have been spending time trying to help her adjust. I have had to share mom and dad with her. She seems ok, as long as i get 1st dibbs on everything she can hang around. Usually when we have fosters in the house i steal all the toys away from them……they are MINE anyways. then after they truely meet my approval I will share. When we have fosters around, I get lots of treats and i love it!!! This new foster follows mom around like a shadow. even in a dead sleep she gets up and follows mom. i dont get it! i love my mom but i boy needs his rest. I dont follow mom unless there is food involved. ANYWAYS……. i got to go to work with mom for a few hours today! It was fun to spend some one on one time with her. i slept at her feet, chewed hooved and sniffed around to make sure things were to my liking. i LOVE going to work with mom!!!!

Gracie has arrived! Yes, she is a red dog….. not the breed red dog i have my fingers crossed for. however i have a LOVE for a few types of “red dogs” and i LOVE redbone coonhounds! This is the 1st purbred redbone(well i think pb) that I have had as a foster. I am very excited she is here. You can read her story here http://coonhoundrescue.org/gallery/Gracie-Ann

She had a rough go and then got lots of good care in a foster home in AL. Now she is here is hopes of finding her forever home. She is slowly but surely warming up.  She is very hesistant with Dan, but will take treats from him. However when he isnt around she hangs out with me, like a shadow. If Dan is around she hides or lays in her crate, but she is slowly warming up. She played with Bruno a little. I am hoping to see more play in the days ahead. She is beautiful and is so sweet. She is VERY interested in food. Her nose starts sniffing as soon as food is present. 

and as i typed this, she just joined us on the couch. she is making herself right at home. bruno has me “claimed” and she is right next to him.

and suddenly a big boom a thunder, woke everyone up. bruno moved to snuggle with dan(typical) and gracie is with me now to find a way to sneak her into our bed at night…..

my running/hiking/jogging buddy

so i have mentioned (or maybe mom has) that we have been hiking/running a few nights a week. well i figured i would post a picture of my buddy. she is pretty Vizsla. she gets to run off leash all crazy while we are out running. i stayed leashed because once im on a scent i make my own decisions. i do get protective of Sila when another male comes near us. NOBODY is taking MY GIRL!!!!

2nd Annual Beers of the World

Some friends of ours had their annual BBQ & pool party. last year they started with the “beers of the world”. Dan plays with a few guys in a pick up band every year at the party. amanda always ends up swimming! everyone brings a favorite six pack of beer or something they are looking to try. Through out the day everyone gets the chance to try various types of beer. This year my new found beer to drink is Red Stripe. Although there were lots of other good ones, that was my favorite. It was a GREAT day and the party was a blast as usual. Can’t wait for next year.

AWWW Bruno as a baby and a little background story

We got bruno when he was almost 7 months old, however i was lucky enough to get some baby pictures from the rescue. Bruno came from a shelter in TN that has a very high euthansia rate. He was surrended with his 3 littermates. All made the journey to CT and were adopted at 12wks. Bruno lived with another family for a few months, but then they returned him cause of “allergies”. The first day we met Bruno he sniffed a treat out in my purse(of course i brought it for him and he had to get it) and then he spend most of the visit sniffing the yard like a true hound! we fell in love and he came home a few days later. Adding Bruno to our family was one of the BEST decisions we ever made. I cannot begin to speak about how much fun, joy, laughs, companionship and so many other things he has brought to our lives. One of the biggest lessons he has taught me is to “be happy with what you have and enjoy it” . my one wish is for bruno to be 100% trusted off leash to go hiking, play, swim etc. he is ok in certain situations but not all. we have worked with him A LOT on this. we have had some great progress but some big setbacks when his instinct to “think on his own” take over, there is no stopping him, even with a favorite toy or treat.  he also is stubborn, wants to do things HIS way and has his OWN AGENDA. however he is a GREAT dog and i love him for who he is and what he excels in.  we have great on leash hikes and we are hoping for him to get his CGC. although he gives me the “LET ME THINK ABOUT THIS” or “WHY SHOULD I DO WHAT YOU ASKED” or “HMM WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME” look sometimes, he is obedient.

he has also taught me to live life to the fullest at each moment. even when he is exhausted he keeps doing what he loves. he goes on that walk, chases the last squirrel, or get up from a dead sleep for a treat….even when exhausted.

OREO & Fudge Ice Cream Cake

4 hr 10 min

Makes:
12 servings

1/2 cup hot fudge ice cream topping, warmed

1 tub  (8 oz.) COOL WHIP Whipped Topping, thawed, divided

1 pkg. (4-serving size) JELL-O Chocolate Instant Pudding

8   OREO Cookies, chopped (about 1 cup)

12 vanilla ice cream sandwiches, unwrapped

POUR fudge topping into medium bowl. Add 1 cup of the whipped topping; stir with wire whisk until well blended. Add dry pudding mix; stir 2 min. or until well blended. Gently stir in chopped cookies; set aside.

ARRANGE 4 of the ice cream sandwiches, side-by-side, on 24-inch-long piece of foil; top with half of the whipped topping mixture. Repeat layers. Top with remaining 4 ice cream sandwiches. Frost top and sides of dessert with remaining whipped topping. Bring up foil sides. Double fold top and ends to loosely seal packet.

FREEZE at least 4 hours before serving. Store leftover dessert in freezer

those are the words in Mom’s head.  and after this week I dont think she is talking about me anymore. im kinda reddish but i think the correct color would be golden tan, if i do say so myself.

we have been spending some evenings with a pretty red dog gal named Sila and her mom. i get SO excited to see Sila(if u know what i mean) and then i go about my hound agenda.  BUT….from what i heard they are trying to get Sila in shape for some upcoming events….  we have been going for lots of runs/hikes in the woods, and i NEVER mind that. Mom loves being outside and excercising too. My Mom and I are a good match cause we cant get enough of being outside!

mom also has me crossing all my paws for little red dogs in thyme.  ok mom whatever you say.

eau de toilette BUG SPRAY

do i love hiking in the woods, but the bugs are BAD. i stink of bug spray! time for a shower….oh wait the cold water isnt working right. usually it wouldn’t be a problem but on a hot summer night there is nothing like a cool shower but guess that is not an option.

maybe i will send bruno to asked dan what the status of the plumbing problem is…. 

for now it’s me and bug spray!
